While many communications providers brag about utilizing "fiber" in their networks, unless they provide it all the way to the home, they do not compare. Randolph Communications is providing High Speed fiber optics all the way to your home with Fiber Connect. Fiber to the home (FTTH), or Randolph Fiber, is the delivery of a communications signal over fiber optics to a home or business. This fiber will replace the existing copper infrastructure such as telephone wires and coax cable. Fiber to the home is a method of providing higher bandwidth to consumers and businesses, which enables more robust video, Internet and voice services.

Connecting homes directly to fiber optic cable enables large improvements in the bandwidth that can be provided to consumers. Current fiber optic technology can provide two-way transmission speeds of up to 1000 megabits per second. Further, as cable router and internet providers are struggling to squeeze increments of higher bandwidth out of their technologies, ongoing improvements in fiber optic equipment are constantly increasing available bandwidth without having to change the fiber. That’s why fiber networks are said to be “future proof.”

Our Fiber Story:

Randolph Communications Cooperative territory spans over seven counties, which means we serve 534.46 square miles of rural communities. Our goal has always been and continues to be providing the best customer service to our customers with the most advanced technology.

Some companies choose not to provide Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) to their customers. However, that is not the case at Randolph Communications. Your Cooperative believes in you having the best. Did you know that 16,007 addresses already have fiber by them at this time? We still have a ways to go so your patience is important.

To summarize our fiber plan, your Cooperative began constructing transport fiber in 1998. In 2011, we put the plow in high gear to really ramp up our FTTH efforts. To date, we have invested over $69 Million in our fiber plant. Will it take time to get to everyone? Yes. How soon will the Coop be 100% fiber fed? We are 94% complete. These remaining areas are completed using the following criteria: service issues, distance from a wire center (which impacts what speed you can get over copper) and if customers are willing to pay for additional advanced services. We know you need high-speed internet for your jobs, for your children’s school work, for medical needs, or even for entertainment purposes.

We are working very hard and are committed to having fiber throughout our territory. This is why our non-member areas like Spies, Chatham County, Sanford, Silk Hope and El Dorado are so important. The monthly revenues that come in from non-members support the fiber build within our Cooperative footprint. We would love to have 20 construction crews and be finished in two years, but that is not feasible.

Rural America deserves the same technological services that are available in metropolitan areas. Rural America cannot be left behind and your Coop is doing everything we can to bridge the digital divide in our areas.

Less WI-FI interferences:

It is best suited for high-bandwidth devices or activities like gaming and streaming TV.

Previous Email Scams To Be Aware Of: 

Email provides us a convenient and powerful communications tool. Unfortunately, it also provides scammers and other malicious individuals an easy means for luring potential victims. The scams they attempt run from bogus business opportunities to phishing schemes using a combination of email and bogus web sites to trick victims into divulging sensitive information. To protect yourself from these scams, you should understand what they are, what they look like, how they work, and what you can do to avoid them.

Here are some previous scams:

  • If you have received an email that looks like it comes from us and states "Hello User,Our record indicates that you recently made a request to shut down your email. And this request will be processed shortly. If this request was made accidentally and you have no knowledge of it, you are advised to cancel the request now by clicking Stop Account Shutdown." This is a SCAM.
  • If you have received an email that looks like it comes from us and states "Your email account has almost exceeded its limit and that they may not be able to send or receive messages at any time from now on. It is asking them to “click” on the link and renew their account." This is a SCAM.
  • Police Warn of New 'Line-Trapping Technology' Being Used to Scam People Over the Phone: A new piece of sophisticated technology is being used by fraudsters to scam unsuspecting people over the phone. Police said a woman in the York Region received a call earlier this month and was told by the scammers she had been a victim of identity theft. Police said the woman was directed to call police and confirm the information. The victim called authorities and believed she had spoken to an officer. Through the investigation it was revealed that the suspects used new line-trapping technology to remain connected to her phone line when she tried to call police. The technology used by the scammers reconnected her phone line to them instead of the authorities. Police said the woman lost a quantity of cash and the suspects obtained her personal information. Police are reminding citizens to be cautious with any calls or e-mails seeking personal information. "If a situation feels suspicious, trust your instincts," police said in a news release on Thursday. "If you wish to confirm a call you receive do so on a delayed time line. Evidence suggests that the line-trapping technology being utilized has a time limit of several minutes." Police said to call on another line if you are suspicious of being hacked.
  • Phone Scam claiming to be paypal: If you receive a call from 786-408-1679 stating they are from paypal, it is a scam.
  • COVID-19 Scams: Criminals are opportunists. They will often capitalize on major news events to create scams to take advantage of unsuspecting consumers. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic is a perfect example. The fear evoked by the coronavirus creates the perfect opportunity for criminals to prey upon individuals with phishing, social engineering scams and more.
  • Phone scams: If you receive a call from 1-877-376-3470 claiming to be Amazon and asking you to log into your computer so they could issue them a refund on a package they could not ship.

Email Scam:

  • If you receive an email from RTMC with no subject line, saying "This email is to confirm our recent service change. To increase the level of security for our customers' email accounts, RTMC mail is implementing a new email password policy for protection. Please log in to HERE for an update. Upgrade will be effective when next you log in." This is a SCAM, DO NOT CLICK THE LINK.
  • An email that appears as if it is coming from rtmc.net IT asking for your address {customer email address} confirm your ownership {date} & {time} and then to click link with your email address. This is a SCAM, DO NOT CLICK THE LINK.
  • If you received an email from RTMC with the Subject Line: Past Invoice, saying "Attached please find the ACH transfer form. Please let me know if you have any questions. A printer friendly attachment is now included with each email. Click on the attachment to open or save the printer version of your report. Thank you, Billing." This is a SCAM.
  • If you received an email from RTMC with the Subject Line: Your Product will expire soon, saying "Your Product(s) username@rtmc.net. Has been set to close on 12/22/2020. We're sorry to see you go. If you change your mind and want to keep using this products, just sign in between now and 12/22/2020 to reopen it. Log on to Maintenance portal to cancel request. Your Mailbox will be restored to it's normal functional settings." This is a SCAM, DO NOT CLICK THE LINK.

Affordable Connectivity Program

Randolph Communications has been notified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that funding for the program is expected to run out by the end of April 2024, meaning April bills may be the last ACP credit issued.

As a result, the FCC began taking steps to wind down the program. During the wind down process, the FCC established February 7, 2024, as the last day that new ACP enrollments will stop. This includes any paperwork that must be submitted to our company to be enrolled.

If you are already enrolled in ACP and receiving the monthly internet discount before February 8, 2024, you will continue to receive your ACP benefit until ACP funds run out. After ACP ends, the $30 credit you are receiving towards your internet service will be removed and you will be responsible for any remaining charges on your internet service.

This federal program provides a discount of up to $30 on the internet bills for households that meet certain income eligibility requirements.

A household is eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program if one member of the household:

  • Has an income that is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines;
  • Participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing Assistance, SSI, WIC, or Lifeline;
  • Receives benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision, or did so in the 2019-2020 school year, 2020-2021, or 2021-2022;
  • Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year;
  • Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider's existing low-income program.

What is the Affordable Connectivity Program?

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program to help households struggling to pay for internet service during pandemic. This new benefit will connect eligible households to jobs, critical healthcare services, and virtual classrooms.

Can more than one person in a household qualify?

The Affordable Connectivity Program is limited to one monthly service discount per household. A household defined as any individual or group of individuals who are living together at the same address and share income and expenses—roommates are a household, a family living together are a household.

Who receives the funds?

As the provider, Randolph Communications will receive the funds directly from Emergency Broadband Benefit program.

Can I apply for the ACP if I have a past due balance?

Yes, eligible consumers with a past due balance or a balance in collections are eligible for the benefit. The ACP does not apply to the past due balance, it will cover $30 of the current month's bill.

Will eligibility be determined through the National Verifier?

Yes. Household eligibility will be determined through the Universal Service Administrative Company's National Verifier.

If I already receive Lifeline benefits will I automatically receive the ACP?

Yes. Household eligibility will be determined through the Universal Service Administrative Company's National Verifier. No. You must opt-in with RC or request enrollment in the ACP program with RC and choose an eligible service plan.

Can I sign up for the ACP if I am already a customer or if I was a customer in the past?

Can I receive both the Lifeline discount and the ACP discount?

Yes. Eligible customers can receive both the Lifeline discount and the ACP discount. Eligible customers can combine both the Lifeline and ACP benefits to the same qualifying service or separately to a Lifeline service and an ACP service. No. You must opt-in with RC or request enrollment in the ACP program with RC and choose an eligible service plan.

Can I collect a credit that is more than my current service cost?

No. The ACP credit can be up to $30 per month; but, it cannot be more than the price of the broadband plan. No. You must opt-in with RC or request enrollment in the ACP program with RC and choose an eligible service plan.

After 22 years of tolerating diminishing service quality from Brightspeed and it's most recent predecessor, Centurylink, we have finally gotten static free telephone and high speed internet from Randolph Communications. We were pleased when we saw the contractors installing the fiber optic cable, but we had no idea how good the service would be! From our first call to sign up as customers, we knew times had changed; our call was answered on the fourth ring, and a REAL LIVE HUMAN BEING, who spoke English, took our call. I am not kidding you, I know it's hard to believe in this day and time, but we were NOT put on hold and forced to listen to mind numbing music for 30 minutes with interrupted announcements that our call was very important and would be answered by the next available operator. We talked to real people and set up our service in minutes. The next surprise was when it came time for the service to installed. The TECHNICIANS CAME ON THE DAY THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO, and THEY WERE ON TIME! They were courteous, well groomed, gentlemen who went out of their way to get our service installed just the way it would serve us best. They did not track dirt into the house, they closed doors behind themselves, cleaned up shavings off the floor and turned off lights when they were finished. As a final note, the cost for static-free phone service, and internet that is 10 times faster is less than we were paying before. In addition, all the wiring is buried, so service will not fail after every thunderstorm. I know that everyone reading this will think it is a work of fiction, but all you need to do to validate it is to call them. If you are not in their service area, perhaps you should move.

I'm also impressed with Randolph Communication's customer service. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to speak to a representative, and they've always been helpful and knowledgeable. Nobody even comes close in this regard. There are no words to describe how happy I am with Randolph Communication. It's the best internet service I've ever had, and now my biggest wish is that everyone in Chatham County could have this as an option so they don’t have to deal with anyone else.

Couldn’t be happier with our fiber. Incredibly reliable service. I love that you actually get somebody local if you have to call for any reason. Lightning knocked out our service twice and both times we were up and running in a few hours, one of those days being a Sunday. Always top notch service from customer service to the technicians.
